About The Flower Shed
A small but significant transformation has occurred at a little old boat shed in Port Road. Opposite the Okara Park Shopping Centre (behind Countdown) a new business is flourishing. Tarsha Dean a local Whangarei florist has just launched ‘The Flower Shed’. Specialising in wholesale prices for flowers, bouquets, plants and associated natural products Tarsha hopes to fill a bit of a niche with a local focus. Tarsha says the product lines she carries are sourced pre-dominately from Northland flower growers, nurseries, quarry and artists.
The Flower Shed was officially opened by Whangarei mayor Morris Cutforth on November 26. “We asked the mayor to officially open the shop as we are in alignment with his 2020 vision to beautify the water ways and surrounds of Whangarei, hence the old boat shed has been totally restored and renovated to reflect the unique products and local scene that Whangarei has to offer.''
The frontage is extensively decorated by Northland’s own Oceanic based schist set to rival the Alpine based schists from the South Island. Tarsha says the stone has a unique and oceanic based look and feel to it and is one of the only schist stones available from the North Island. The quarry the stone is sourced from has an unusually, extensive range of stone products ranging from walling, paving, stone slabs & stepping stones to stunning landscape boulders and decorative mulches. Using local products for local projects enhances a projection of ‘blending with the surrounding environment’ and looking like it belongs right there creating a more natural and complete look overall.
Tarsha brings her floristry experience and flair from previous successful Auckland based businesses. Now a settled Northlander for six years Tarsha felt a wholesale opportunity to get local growers flowers and plants direct to the public was a bit of a void in the local scene. Beautiful fresh flowers can be purchased in ‘raw’ bunches at wholesale rates however stunning made up bouquets are also available at remarkably sharp rates. We do local deliveries and hope to soon launch an online ordering facility via the web.
